I
think that most readers would agree that having the ability to speak French is
a desirable and useful goal, and yet believe that it is really a very difficult
thing to achieve. I remember from my first trip to France, I could speak no
French, nor indeed could the other people who traveled to France on a single
tour as me. The interesting thing was that the good percentage of the French
people I met could speak a minimum of some English.
It
seems that in many English talking countries knowing the French language or
indeed any foreign language is undoubtedly unimportant and too much effort
whereas on the continent many people speak a minimum of one extra language.
During the next few paragraphs I plan to persuade you that training yourself to
talk French is desirable, important and with modern learning techniques it's
not especially difficult to achieve
French
is among the great languages of the world. About 300 million globally speak
French like a first or second language. French is spoken in a lot of countries.
There are 35 countries in which French is spoken at least somewhat. These
countries include many parts of The african continent, Belgium, Luxembourg,
Switzerland, parts of Canada, Haiti, and also the Seychelles, in addition of
course to Portugal itself! As you can see from the above mentioned statistics,
by knowing French, you will possess acquired a language skill, which will cause
you to, feel comfortable and confident whenever you visit most of the countries
of the world.
When
you holiday in a French speaking country you'll have no problem chatting to
locals, asking with regard to directions, ordering food and dealing with a
variety of unexpected problems which may arise, once you understand how to
speak French. How would you explain to some French car mechanic, who can speak
absolutely no English, about the problem you have together with your car? This
would be easy if you are able to speak French.
Business
people, who can speak French will find it easier to cope with buyers, sellers
and other contacts in France speaking countries, this could open up totally new
areas of income for them.
When
one decides to understand a foreign language, there is some level of difficulty
involved. Learning a new language is within some respects quite a difficult
undertaking. Although French is in many respects among the easier languages to
learn, there is still a significant steep learning curve, a fair investment in
effort and time is required when learning the language. Pronunciation of French
words is different to how the English speaker would be inclined in order to
pronounce them, and then there are the various tenses, usage of verbs and other
grammatical structures to understand.
All
this in additional to the effort and time required mastering the reasonably
large vocabulary essential for good communication. If you think that I'm trying
to put you off - i quickly am not - definitely not! The advantages of knowing a
foreign language far outweigh the investment in effort and time required. The
secret is in the method you decide to learn. Rather than use a traditional
guide, in this technological age an interactive method for example CD's, DVD's
or a course via the internet is the greatest and quickest way of getting to
grips using the French language.
In
conclusion, knowing how to speak French has several benefits. You will be able
to travel to French speaking countries and speak to the locals easily and
confidently. However learning the French language is fairly difficult and the
easiest way for most people to achieve this is by using a modern multimedia
course. Provided the course is from the highest standard, the task of learning
